What is the “Hybrid Office”?

The term “hybrid office” refers to a working arrangement where employees move between home and office, and COVID-19 made it a reality for many businesses.

Companies that have embraced the hybrid office feel it improves employee morale and productivity by giving staff a better work-life balance, more personal time, and more freedom. Since it is predicted that remote work will continue in a post-COVID-19 business world, we need to consider ways to keep confidential information secure, no matter where employees are working.

Secure Shredding

Going “paperless” can decrease information security risks, but a 100 percent paperless office is rarely possible or even desirable. No matter what, there always seems to be some paper documents to deal with and securely dispose of. Whether your staff are working from home, on the road, or in the office, they need to know what to do with documents they no longer need

Here’s what we recommend:

  • Implement a “shred everything” policy so employees aren’t forced to decide what is okay to recycle and what needs to be shredded first.
  • Place designated shred collection containers in the office and offer Seal ‘N Shred Bags for home offices.
  • Schedule periodic shredding events. These can be held at the office, at your shredding provider’s location, or you may arrange for documents to be collected and shredded in a secure facility.
  • Designate an authorized staff member to securely collect documents from all work locations and take them to a secure shredding facility. This creates a clear chain of custody and minimizes the possibility of confidential documents being misplaced.
